New Mario Kart 7 Screens Confirm Tanooki Tail Power-Up, Shy Guy
Feast your eyes on this new set of Mario Kart 7 screens which reveal the Tanooki Tail power-up and also confirm Shy Guy as a character. In addition to these confirmations, one of the screenshots also confirms that, like Mario Kart Wii, Mario Kart 7 will also allow you to use your Miis in-game.

Mr. Bennett was once in charge of U.S. education in the 1980s alongside the first Bush regime and argues that men have turned to video games as a “pathetic” response to the fact that women have gained more rights and standing in society. Yes, that is a down-to-pat summary of the point he was trying to make on national television.
The link provides an article to IGN, and they have heavily encouraged feedback on the issue. Personally, I find the vendetta Mr. Bennett has against gaming and its worldwide community is quite a lackluster (and at this point worn) response to a faltering economy and a very convenient excuse to appeal to a more conservative demographic that already considers gaming a moral fault. The fact he took his uninformed and bigoted comments about an entire worldwide base of people to U.S. national television is quite the pathetic move.

Gamers Discover Two New Planets by Playing a Browser Game
It’s been a banner week for gamers and “doing things that count in the real world.” First, they solve a decades-old scientific AIDS stumper using Foldit, and now, they’ve discovered two new possibly Earth-like planets.
For a couple years now, NASA has been running the Kepler Mission, which gives “citizen scientists” access to photographs taken by the Kepler Space Telescope with the hope that they will discover habitable new planets. Sister site io9 reports that by playing the Kepler Mission’s browser-based game Planet Hunters, citizen scientists have found two new planets outside of our solar system.
The Kepler team at NASA has been overwhelmed with data, and has turned to essentially crowdsourcing the research on the project, which otherwise would require a prohibitive amount of manpower. Behold, the power of gaming! (via)

PlayStation has announced an Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception bundle to go with the upcoming launch of the game. Oh, excitement!
The bundle will include Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (duh), a 320GB PS3 system, and a one month subscription to PlayStation Plus. Uncharted 3 will be coming at you November 1 on the PS3 (November 2 in Europe and Japan, November 3 in Australia).

Poisonous Rhinos Discourage Poachers
The Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve in Krugersdorp, north of Johannesburg, South Africa, discovered that a medical mixture used to kill parasites on the rhinos also made their horns toxic to humans. The AFP recently reported on this new tool in the fight to protect wildlife.
The treatment helps the health of the horn-heads by preventing parasites, but causes convulsions and headaches in any human who partakes in a rhino horn home remedy. Rhino horn is made of keratin, the same material as fingernails and hair, and prized in parts of Asia an an aphrodisiac and for other medicines.
